Since its inception back in 2009, Stolen Kidneys has been spreading it’s noise-rockish, sludgy hardcore across Europe. Think of early 90’ post-hardcore bands in the vein of Unwound and Slint down tuning their guitars and aspiring to sound as heavy as Breach or Neurosis.

After the release of their sophomore album, Maailma loppuu (2022), the band found themselves at a crossroads where they could either continue as a heavier sludgy noise-rock band or expand and explore new horizons that would ultimately turn into the upcoming third album titled, Melankolia (Melancholy). The album further develops on the bands take on 90’s post-hardcore / noise rock with the usual suspects of Unwound, Slint, The Jesus Lizard, Shellac and local heroes, Radiopuhelimet, but also adding melody and the emotional weight of bands such as Maximillian Colby, Navio Forge, Julia and Breakwater.

Melankolia will be co-released in 26th of june on vinyl by minoRobscuR (Germany), The Ghost is Clear (USA), Bloodshed666 Records (Austria) and Day Off Records (France).

Melankolia was recorded and mixed at Tonehaven Recording Studio in the Finnish countryside of Lievestuore, Finland, back in September 2025 by Tom Brooke. Tonehaven has been the studio of choice for multiple releases by the band and is vital for the sonic expression they wish to manifest. Other Finnish acts such as Oranssi Pazuzu and Kairon:IRSE have had their highly acclaimed albums recorded here.

Mastering duties were handled by the one and only, Will Killingsworth (Dead Air Studios), who is renowned for not only his work as a mixing and mastering engineer, working with such bands as Full of Hell and Straw Man Army, but also as a musician with multiple past and current projects Orchid and Bucket Full of Teeth to name a few.

The photograph on the cover was taken Pekka Ohtokangas and the layout done by Jussi Pohjanen, a name that has become a staple in the Finnish music scene
